Spanish immersion in Merida
Merida is the capital of Yucatan. Appreciated by tourists, it is recognized for its cleanliness and safe streets. The white city offers something for everyone : history, culture, nature, sports and an easily accessible beach. It is also a true Mexican colonial city where one can feel the soul of the country. Merida is a jewel waiting to be discovered.
Two-hour spanish lessons are given each morning in groups of 10 students. Students may then take advantage of the afternoon to tour, meet people and appreciate the city area. Lessons are mainly theoretical and students will have the opportunity to put into practice what they learned in class and during numerous activities and outings. The organizing teacher can suggest course content to be given by the Mexican instructors.
Host families offer a room and three meals per day. They are upper middle-class families. Houses are large and spacious and offer several rooms. It is to be noted that the families have previous experience with welcoming foreigners. Usually 2 or 3 students are placed with a family. Accompanying persons are placed so as to be able to quickly go where their students are staying. Upon arrival in Merida, the students are met by the guide and host families who will also return them to the airport at the end of their trip.
Activities are arranged by a Spanish-speaking guide. As such the students can practice their skills learned in class and in real-life situations all day. Consult the program activity guide for more details. Your guide will also be responsible for host families. He or she will be the contact person for any requests or questions you may have.
