Prague and Budapest - 10 days / 8 nights
DAY 1: PRAGUE
Departure - Overnight flight to Europe.
DAY 2: PRAGUE
Arrival in Prague, meet your coach driver. Transfer to the centre to check into your hotel.
P.M.: You will enjoy a guided city tour to see sights like the Charles Bridge, the old town hall with its Gothic clock, the St. Nicholas Church, visit to the Prague Castle. This castle was founded in the 9th century, then rebuilt and expended many times. When you enter the castle you will see sights like the St. Vitus Cathedral and the Golden Lane, a 16th century tradesman’s quarter of tiny houses built into the castle walls. The novelist Franz Kafka lived and wrote in the tiny house No. 22.
Dinner at a local restaurant.
DAY 3
A.M.: You will visit together with a local guide the oldest ghetto in Europe, the Jewish Quarter. It was cleaned up and redesigned in the late 19C. See the Old-New Synagogue and the Old Jewish Cemetery, where the dead are buried on 12 levels because of the lack of space.
P.M.: You will visit the Castle of Karlstein, founded by the builder of “Golden Prague”, Emperor Charles IV. The medieval castle is situated high on the rocks and was meant to be a safe place to keep the crown jewels and holy reliquaries. Return to Prague for dinner and overnight.
Dinner at a local restaurant.
DAY 4: PRAGUE
A.M.: You will visit the mining town Kutna Hora, a local guide will show you the main sights, see the St. Barbara’s Cathedral an extraordinary example of Flamboyant Gothic architecture bristling with lying buttresses and pinnacles. You will visit the Hradek Mining museum, see the medieval stone fountain, several magnificent mansions in the old town including the house with the great stone gable, the bell-tower on St. John’s Church and best of all the Vlassky Dvur or Italian Courtyard which was named after the Italian craftsmen who provide the know–how for the minting of Czech coinage.
Transfer back to Prague.
Dinner at a local restaurant. After dinner optional performance of the Laterna Magica a (black) light and sound performance.
Overnight in Prague.
DAY 5: PRAGUE - BUDAPEST
Today you will travel to Budapest by train. Transfer from the hotel to the station at Prague and Budapest station to the hotel. Dinner at a local restaurant.
Evening: Enjoy a walk along the Danube.
Overnight in Budapest.
DAY 6: BUDAPEST
A.M.: City tour with a local guide to see both parts, Buda and Pest. You will see the Parliament Buildings, the Opera, the Fishermen’s Bastion, St. Margaret’s Cloister and Castle Hill.
P.M.: You will visit the National Gallery with Hungarian and European paintings and sculptures such as works by Leonardo da Vinci, Veronese, Rembrandt, Rubens, Poussin and Picasso but the old masters gallery is the museum’s showpiece. Its collections include Italian paintings with works by Bellini, Giorgione, the Dutch school with works by Breugel the Elder, Van Goyen and the Spanish school represented by El Greco, Velasquez and Goya. Leisure time for the rest of the afternoon.
Dinner at a local restaurant.
DAY 7
A.M.: You will visit a charming village : Szentendre, situated on the right bank of the Danube. Its sloping narrow cobbled streets are lined with brightly-colored houses. Many artists have lived here.
P.M.: Transfer to the Puszta (the Hungarian steps) and enjoy a phenomenal horse show.
Dinner at the Puszta. After dinner transfer back to Budapest.
DAY 8: BUDAPEST
A.M.: After breakfast you will enjoy the picturesque streets of Buda, see the medieval houses and Baroque mansions. The Hilton hotel is built on the remains of a Gothic Church and cloisters. See the Liberation monument erected in 1947 which stands on the top of the hill and symbolizes the liberation of Hungary. From the terrace, another splendid view of the town unfolds.
P.M.: Leisure time for shopping or for an optional visit : Gellert Baths. The pool built in the former greenhouse is renowned for its splendid mosaics columns and flower-decked balconies. Farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
Overnight in Budapest.
DAY 9
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
